Bariatric Surgery Center

What to Expect

Bariatric surgeries at UH Geauga Medical Center are performed on Thursdays.  The usual length of stay for our patients depends on the type of surgery performed.

Lap Gastric Band patients arrive early Thursday morning and are usually discharged to home sometime on Friday afternoon.

Lap Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients also arrive early Thursday morning and can usually be discharged to home sometime on Saturday.

Patients will stay longer should the need arise; we never rush anyone out that is not ready to go home.  Longer hospital stays are required for those patients that must have open surgery and will be determined on an individual case by case basis.

Family members are more than welcome to stay with you during your hospital stay.  Each of our Bariatric surgery patients is given a private room, complete with sink, shower and TV.  You are free to bring any personal items with you that will make you comfortable.
