CHARDON, Ohio, Sept. 28, 2007 — A $10,000 scholarship has been created to assist area nursing students and to memorialize the recently retired chief nursing officer at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.
The establishment of the Terry M. Weaver Nursing Scholarship was announced by hospital president Richard J. Frenchie at an August 23 reception in Mrs. Weaver’s honor.
he scholarship serves as a living tribute to Terry Weaver, R.N. in celebration of her positive impact on the nursing profession and Geauga Medical Center and its central mission: To Heal. To Teach. To Discover.
Mrs. Weaver retired on August 31 after more than 33 years of service at Geauga Medical Center. She began her career as a staff nurse in 1974 before being promoted to a head nurse position in 1986. In 1996 she was named chief nursing officer for the hospital.
“Terry has always felt it was a privilege and an honor to work with the physicians and staff at Geauga Medical Center,” said Mr. Frenchie. “Her warmth, dedication and leadership imprint shall endure the passing of time and serves as a stellar role model for future nurses and nursing executives.”
The $10,000 scholarship was funded by Geauga Medical Center and the hospital’s medical staff. Distributions from the endowment will be used to support students who wish to succeed in the nursing profession by enrolling in the bachelor of science in nursing program at Kent State University Geauga Campus. The fund is expected to be ongoing and sustainable based on future contributions.
