Definition

  

Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome is adrenal gland failure due to bleeding into the adrenal gland. It is caused by severe meningococcal infection or other severe, overwhelming infection.

Symptoms include acute adrenal gland insufficiency and profound shock. It is deadly if not treated immediately.
